Queering Fantasy Panel

On March 6th Brent Lambert moderated a wonderful panel on queering fantasy with Christopher Caldwell, CL Clark, Eboni Dunbar & CL Polk. The discussion interrogated questions of genre lines, the themes we think of as inherent to “epic fantasy,” the position of queer writers and writing within fantasy, and where fantasy still has room to grow.

Some of the books mentioned in the panel:

  • LD Lewis, A Ruin of Shadows

  • Kai Ashante Wilson, A Taste of Honey & Sorcerer of the Wildeeps

  • Jordan Ifueko, Raybearer

  • Rebecca Roanhorse, Black Sun

  • Kate Elliott, Black Wolves

  • Shelley Parker-Chan, She Who Became the Sun

  • Tasha Suri, The Jasmine Throne

Plus short fiction:

  • LP Kindred, “Yamwine & Nectar”

  • Jen Brown, “While Dragons Claim the Sky”

For a short while, books by these authors are available at Portal Bookshop for 10% using the code QUEERINGFANTASY. And if free shipping would be cheaper for you, use POSTBYPORTAL instead.

Also, you can find both CL Clark and Christopher Caldwell’s work in Glitter + Ashes: Queer Tales of a World That Never Was. Eboni Dunbar’s novella, Stone and Steel, is currently on sale in ebook. And you can read a flash story from Brent Lambert in the second issue of Baffling Magazine (not to mention keeping an eye out for his novella, A Necessary Chaos, in 2022).

And don’t forget to check out Midnight Bargain and the Kingston Cycle by CL Polk, and The Unbroken by CL Clark (coming out on March 23rd).
