Modern Cosmic Horror

Premee Mohamed's writing workshop on modern cosmic horror is an immersive experience that delves deep into the dark and surreal aspects of the genre. Participants will learn how to create atmospheric and unsettling narratives that explore the unknown and unimaginable. Through instruction, writing exercises and group discussions, participants will leave the workshop with the skills and inspiration to craft their own cosmic horror stories.

The Speculative Erotic
with Bendi Barrett

This irreverent writing workshop on erotic speculative fiction by Bendi Barrett will dive into essential topics such as sexual consent, effective content warnings, and navigating the ever-shifting landscape of restrictions around publishing erotic content. Participants will gain the skills needed to craft sensual scenes with increased depth and authenticity while exploring the range of publishing options available to them.

Embodied Characters
with Marianne Kirby

Marianne Kirby's workshop on writing embodied characters explores strategies for grounding characters in the physical in any genre. Participants will explore different techniques to communicate the physicality of their characters, as well as experiment with methods for portraying characters of varying body size with an emphasis on adding fat characters to their work. The workshop structure includes instruction, class discussion, writing exercises, and group critique of published excerpts.

Each workshops has fifteen seats. Five seats in each are designated as no-cost seats for trans writers and/or writers of color. Five are designated as paid seats ($25). And finally, five are reserved for folks who sign up for all three workshops with either a free or paid ($50) ticket. (If the workshop you’d like to attend sells out, you may join the waitlist).

All participants will also receive ebooks of And What Can We Offer You Tonight by Premee Mohamed, Empire of the Feast by Bendi Barrett, and Unfettered Hexes: Queer Tales of Insatiable Darkness, which features a short story by Marianne Kirby.
